Located on the ground floor of B420 along Koorliny Way, the new Curtin Exchange eatery Banh Mizzle is now open five days a week for those who are craving a little baguette of heaven.

Banh Mizzle initially started off as a much loved food truck and was well-known for its authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

As they’ve expanded their menu after opening in Curtin Exchange, their products now include rice bowls, noodle salads, rice paper rolls — and their specialty, jumbo-size banh mis.

Curtin University students Gavin Tang and Will Cook are local customers of Banh Mizzle. With excitement, they share with us their personal thoughts about the fairly new on-campus outlet.

Third-year Bachelor of Arts student Gavin Tang explains how excited he was upon hearing that Banh Mizzle was coming to Curtin.

“My excitement filled the air on campus when news broke out about the imminent arrival of Banh Mizzle, a renowned Vietnamese restaurant, setting up shop right on campus,” Gavin says.

Gavin states that Banh Mizzle is easily accessible and convenient for all students and staff to visit.

He also highlights that it is in a very populated location, close to academic buildings, gyms, common gathering areas, as well as the central bus station.

“In terms of design and structure, Banh Mizzle is an inviting and comfortable atmosphere,” he observes.

“It has an aesthetically pleasing interior design with appropriate seating arrangements, creating a welcoming environment for everyone to dine and socialise.”

Gavin admires how Banh Mizzle’s range of products cater to different preferences and dietary restrictions, making it a diverse menu that ensures there’s something for everyone.

He also describes the ingredients to be of high quality, resulting in each meal having consistent taste and presentation.

Regarding Banh Mizzle’s staff, Gavin describes them as friendly and able to provide amazing customer service.

Second-year Bachelor of Arts student Will Cook states how he felt neutral about Banh Mizzle’s arrival.

“Frankly, I hadn’t heard of Banh Mizzle. I know that it’s quite embarrassing, with banh mi being one of Australia’s favourite cultural imports. But if I’d known, I certainly would have been excited!”

Like Gavin, Will also believes that Banh Mizzle is situated in a convenient spot.

“Lots of restaurants put too much thought into design, making the restaurant tacky and overwhelming, while others have very plain layouts.” He remarks.

“But Banh Mizzle walks the line perfectly, creating a fun and relaxing environment.”

Will comments on the variety of products that the restaurant has to offer.

“Banh Mizzle has a versatile range of Vietnamese food, so if you can’t find anything you like there, that’s on you! I like to try something different each time, and try to explore what’s on offer.”

In terms of improvements, Gavin notes that Banh Mizzle is often prone to long wait times.

“It might be worth considering improvements in terms of efficiency and timeliness,” Gavin recommends.

“It could involve streamlining order taking, optimising food preparation processes, or increasing staff members during busy periods.”

However, both Gavin and Will still strongly encourage Curtin University students to try out Banh Mizzle if they have not already.

“I would recommend Banh Mizzle to Curtin students, because it’s a fun little lunchtime energy boost for when you need to give your brain a rest from study,” Will says.
