Felize Navidad! Wahey, Christmas is finally here. If you haven’t lobotomised yourself from the endless Maria Carey repeats from your retail job, then you’ll probably still have the ability to buy tickets to some pretty crisp gigs. Like most months during festival season, there are plenty of interesting gigs to head up to before things get messy and fun in January and February. Whether its Jack Johnson in Kings Park or the allure of Nai Palm at the Rosemount, GROK has some pretty interesting gigs of note for you to check out.

Sleepmakeswaves + Rosetta + Georgia Reed – Badlands Perth – Tuesday December 5

Post-rock trailblazers sleepmakeswaves will be hitting up Badlands Bar as a part of their national headlining tour after wrapping up a 60+ date international tour after releasing album Made of Breath Only. Supported by American post-metal band Rosetta and local songstress Georgia Reed, if you’re looking for an entertaining rock gig to head to tonight, then Badlands is the place to hit up.

Jack Johnson + Bahamas – King Park and Botanic Garden – Wedesday December 6

Playing outdoors in probably one of the most interesting spots to host a concert, Johnson will likely be playing a two-hour set with a live band. Playing chilled out folk songs both old and new, pleasing your inner bohemian with a sweeping view of the Perth skyline. It is advised to bring a tartan rug in order to get cosy.

Gordi – Mojos Bar, North Fremantle – Wednesday December 6

Bringing her electronic soundscapes to Mojo’s bar, the Perth stop on her Reservoir tour that kicked off in Melbourne at the end of November. Touring with the Gang of Youths and Icelandic musician Asgeir, Gordi has certainly had a busy late 2017. Catch her play her debut album live in the initimate enclosed space of Mojo’s bar.

The Waifs – Quarry Amphitheatre, City Beach – Wednesday December 6

Celebrating 25 years of playing as a band, The Waifs will be coming home to WA to play at the Quarry Amphitheatre in City Beach. Be prepared to watch live renditions of their latest album Ironbark, an LP that took number one position in the ARIA charts earlier in the year.

Tash Sultana + Pierce Brothers + Willow Beats – Fremantle Arts Centre – Thursday December 7

After a gruelling 18 month world tour Tash Sultana is set to play nationally across Australia, stopping to play at Fremantle Arts Centre along the way. Supported by Willow Beats and the Pierce Brothers, expect a night of crazed drumbeat, DIY music and classic Sultana-esque guitar solos and looping. This live show should quench your thirst for her debut album for the time being.

Alison Wonderland + ASAP Ferg + Danger + DJ Taco (Odd Future) + Lido + Lunice + Party Favor + Quix – Belvoir Amphitheatre, Upper Swan – Sunday December 10

Coming to Perth with a meaty line-up of electronic music producers, tech-heads can be assured to appreciate this gig set up by Alison Wonderland. Be prepared to be amazed by the visuals on top of the sounds. Theatrics and music shall be combined.

Nai Palm – Rosemount Hotel – Friday 15 December

Nominated for a Grammy award twice and receiving praise from artists such as Erykah Badu, Anderson Paak and Prince, Nai Palm will be supported by Demon Days, Spencer Arbuckle and DJ Ben Taffe. Touring under her solo album Needle Paw, be sure to be enticed by lingering silences and evocative sounds.

Polish Club + West Thebarton + Stella Donnelly – Rosemount Hotel, North Perth – Saturday December 16

Expect an early Christmas present from Polish Club at the Rosemount Hotel on December 16. Supported by rising local muso Stella Donnelly, expect loud, brash and cheeky rock and soul all wrapped up and ready to pop like a Christmas cracker. Try to keep up with their beat!
