Usually, I find airline food is unappealing and always seems to smell funky, and not in a good way, but this Perth four-piece indie-rock group is quite the opposite. Airline Food has been making a name for themselves throughout the local music community since they became a band in 2016. Their ‘80s-style synths and psychedelic sounding guitars make the group’s unique summery tunes stick out from the crowd. They haven’t faltered from their streak of releasing killer tracks with their latest release, Axe Murderer.
The new single is a smooth, dreamy tune with a Tame Impala, Mac Demarco likeness—if you’re a fan of Tame Impala, this is most definitely the track for you. The band has created something special that transports you to a world full of colour and sunshine, yet it is a lot darker and heavier than their older tunes from their Fragments in Green EP.
Axe Murderer shows a shift in Airline Food’s sound. As they’ve grown more confident in their songwriting and music they’ve branched out from their path to try something more experimental and I’m excited to see where this takes them.
