The first time I heard Mildlife was only last Saturday, live, as the second opening act for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. This is a Melbourne band who are full of surprises, including one moment where the crowd were moved to cheers when one of the band members, Adam Halliwell, suddenly whipped out a flute and entranced everybody. It was impossible not to dance, even though my feet were aching.
I was bewitched immediately, and since then I’ve bought the T-shirt and listened to The Magnificent Moon on repeat. It’s almost impossible to sway to the magical keyboards, spacey melodies and irresistible vocals, this track flows like warm honey. The Magnificent Moon is exactly the kind of gentle, funky track you might listen to while you’re blazing through space inside a luxury rocket. Mildlife effortlessly melds jazz and disco in their music, and their album Phase is worth listening to on a loop.
If you’ve had a hard week and need something to lift your spirits, this is the track you’re looking for. It’s a great way to toast the beginning of another weekend.
