Beat of the Week: Your Girl Pho’s ‘Surrender’

Perth muso, Your Girl Pho, is out with her first single of the year; a soulfully stripped back R&B track marking the start of a new era for her.

It’s the first song she’s put out since signing with Melbourne-based United Group record label, Daily Nightly. The new tune is another sleek song to add to her wide-ranging discography embodying elements of soul, jazz, R&B and electronica.

While Your Girl Pho’s energetic presence saw her coined Best Live Electronic Act at the WAM Awards last year, Surrender takes it down a notch with airy chords and a calmative beat, fronted by layer upon layer of Pho’s gleaming vocals.

Anyone who’s seen Pho live can attest to the singer/producer’s musical talent. The new song is one to look out for in what feels like a natural step in her career, emulating a down-beat chillwave vibe combined with the compelling vocals of Jorja Smith. Check it out below.
