Propel Youth Arts WA has released the full program of their flagship event for the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival. It is a week-long celebration of young people aged between 12 – 26. Happening around Perth and surrounds, Youth Week WA KickstART Festival 2021 offers a range of free performances, collaborative workshops, talks, and special events that celebrate the artistry and backgrounds of WA’s young creatives.
We would not be here today if not for the depth of ancestral knowledge passed through our lineage, it has made way for young people today to initiate change. We have strength, we have agency, how do we go about creating our path? How do we recognise and understand the path we have been walking on?

“Following the cancellation of the 2020 festival, myself and the Team at Propel are thrilled to be able to pull together a 2021 KickstART Festival that features a diverse and exciting lineup of events including KickstART’s first-ever all-ages drag show. We are just crossing our fingers that the WA luck remains and that we and the young artists and participants can see this incredible festival through.” says Project Manager Cecile Vuaillat.
With an extensive range of free events catered towards young people, this year features a wide range of in-person and online events, the program will drive open conversations about the Youth Week WA 2021 theme ‘Our Path’ which was developed in consultation with the Youth Week WA 2021 Planning Committee a small group of young individuals who voiced out what was important to them: community, belonging, interconnectedness, connection to place, culture, strength, change.

Inspired by wayfinding stars, this year’s theme acknowledges the convergence of our individual paths to form a community, to where we are now, and questions how we are going to move forward.
“As someone who has been a part of the committee for more than five years, I’ve witnessed how KickstART has transformed over the years. After lockdown, we’ve risen from the ashes and I’m excited to see what’s ahead for this year’s festival,” says Youth Week WA 2021 Planning Committee Member Alice Roberts.
From a yarning circle to flower pressing to creative writing to Noongar hip-hop to talks about mental health and meditation, this year’s program offers an extensive range of free events specially curated for young people. Annual favourites like the KickstART Market which features young creatives and entrepreneurs, live music events featuring some of WA’s best young and local musicians, online writing mentorship, youth arts networking opportunities, and DJ workshops have also been programmed in this year’s festival.
