As semester 1 comes to a close, members of the Curtin community are already preparing how they will celebrate the end of semester.
On Friday May 26, Curtin Student Guild will be hosting an end of semester ‘Rave Cave’ at the Undercover Courtyard adjacent to the Guild building.
The event is completely free and will feature some of Perth’s most talented DJ’s including Yung Sly and Triplett.
A free party bus will also be provided for those wanting to ‘kick on,’ dropping party-goers in the city after midnight.

Curtin Guild’s Vice President of Activities Athina Hilman says the Rave Cave has something for everyone.
“There will be a game zone that will be run by Curtin eSports and they’re going to have arcade games, guitar hero and console tournaments,” Hilman says.
“EMAS (Electronic Music Appreciation Society) are also going to be DJ’ing before the main headliners.”
Hilman says the Guild are expecting up to 400 students to attend the Rave Cave.
“The night will be a really great way for everyone to get together,” she says.
“It’s just a really good way to destress after the semester just because the semester has been really horrible for everyone.”

But screen arts student Frenni Schmid says she will spend the final week of semester preparing for Dionysus, a play she will perform in as a requirement for one of her units.
Currently in her second year of her studies, Schmid says she has found this year more rewarding than her first year.
“I’ve enjoyed this year more than my first year to be honest, because it’s becoming a lot more practical … I’m actually in the middle of making a short film.”
Dionysus is one of the 23 Greek myths that will be performed as part of the show ‘Greek (and other) Myths: RETOLD’ at Curtin’s Hayman Theatre. The shows run from May 30 to June 2.
Schmid will be starring as Dionysus, and says the experience of putting together a play has been ‘quite fun.’
“I’m doing a unit of acting which I’m doing as an elective … so Dionysus is a comedic adaptation of the real story,” she says.

Psychology student Charles Heather is in his first year of university and says he has been relieved as to how easy the transition between high school and university has been.
“The semester has been pretty good, it’s been not as full on as I expected … the intensity has probably been the same as high school,” Heather says.
Whilst Heather says he feels ‘pretty confident’ going into the exam period, he says he is looking forward to travelling to Malaysia during the break.
Now that concerns around COVID-19 have subsided, Guild Vice-President of Activities Athina Hilman says the Guild is working to host more events.
“We used to host events that would host 1500 to 2000 people … so campus culture is something that we’re really wanting to bring back,” she says.
“We really want to make Curtin really lively … get everyone partying again and get everyone excited about coming to uni so that it’s not just a torturous place.”
