Grab your low rise jeans, baby tees and Juicy Couture tracksuits because on Saturday June 16, Curtin University’s Association of Malaysian Students (AMS) is hosting ‘Party Boat’.

Departing from Barrack Street Jetty at 5:30pm, the Y2K themed river cruise will sail along the Swan River, where guests can enjoy a DJ from Red Bull, a photo booth and ‘free flowing’ finger food.

Tickets for the cruise cost $45 and alcohol can be purchased separately from the boats bar.

Described as a club for ‘Malaysians and everyone else,’ AMS was formed on the core belief of ‘unity through diversity,’ and currently has over 200 members.

AMS’ Marketing Officer Gavin Tang says it is the first time the club has organised an event of such magnitude and is excited to see how Party Boat is received.

“This is something we have never done before and we would like to end the first semester with a bang so that attendees are able to escape the stress of exams and unwind on our Party Boat,” Tang says.

“If the event is successful, we can plan this event again in the future.”

But with Korean Cultural Club (KCC) and Electronic Music Appreciation Society (EMAS) events on the same week, Tang says the club is ‘struggling to encourage people’ to attend the cruise.

“Some people might not know our club very well compared to clubs like Asian Students in Australia (ASIA), Chinese Society (CS) and Multicultural Students Union (MSU),” Tang says.

“People might be hesitant to come because they might not know anybody at Party Boat.”

For those hesitant to attend the cruise, Tang reassures Party Boat’s atmosphere will be ‘relaxed, inclusive and friendly’ making it easy to make new friends and enjoy the night’s festivities.

“Everyone is there to have a good time. Remember that the main purpose of Party Boat is to bring people together for a fun and lively experience … don’t worry about not knowing anyone beforehand; many attendees are in the same situation and are open to meeting new people,” Tang says.

“The Party Boat atmosphere is all about having a good time and connecting with others who share a similar desire for fun and enjoyment. If you’re still hesitant about going alone, consider inviting a friend or two to join you on the Party Boat … you can team up with your friends to meet new people together and expand your social circle.”

“By stepping out of your comfort zone, you’ll have the opportunity to meet new people, make friends and create unforgettable memories.”
