Jump into the transient world of Ukiyo this week through the Perth producer’s new track The Middle, featuring Panama.
The song hailing from one of WA’s most promising EDM artists is similar to the likes of RÜFÜS DU SOL and Golden Features – the kind of electronica that’s reflective, raw and pensive.
The release comes off the back of Ukiyo’s earlier work this year, Good Enough. The follow-up track taking you to a world of hazy vocals and blissful synths.
Working with Panama on the vocals, the man behind Ukiyo, Tim Arnott, explained the key ideas behind the song, drawing comparisons with another of his previous tracks Go.
“They both discuss similar themes of dysfunctional relationships & the fight within when you’re trying to leave them … working with Panama was a dream come true. His ‘Always’ EP way back in 2013 with all the amazing remixes on it was one of the things that got me absolutely hooked on electronic music & learning how to make it so this song is a bit of a full circle moment.”
Accompanying the track is a surreal music video, full of buoyant buildings floating among rich pink and gold light. A rose-coloured Inception-style visual of sorts that certainly fits The Middle’s dreamlike quality.
If you like what you hear, there’s more in store in the coming months, as we’re expecting the release of his Ukiyo LP on November 13.
